Kakuma Girls tells the story of the teenage girls of Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwestern Kenya. Through stories and letters, these girls share what it's like to escape from violence, build a new life, attend school, and dream for the future.
Seventeen year-old Clare Morneau started a pen-pal program between the girls of Havergal College in Toronto and the girls at the Kakuma camp, in the hopes of raising awareness and to fund the education of some of the girls featured in the book. Learn more about Kakuma Refugee Camp here.
